Microcement is a fantastic decorative coating that can give your space a fresh modern look.
Imagine sleek, seamless floors, walls, or even furniture. It's incredibly durable, waterproof, and comes in a huge variety of colors and textures.
Why microcement?
It’s very thin (2-3mm), and can adhere on almost any surface. So it’s very good for overlaying on existing flooring, as long as it’s reasonably flat.
Because it can be spread across any contiguous surface, you won’t see any tile joint lines.
It’s also waterproof, so you can even use it in the bathroom for that clean, sleek, wabi sabi look.
Why not just cement screed?
Because normal cement screed will crack over time, especially in high-traffic areas or places exposed to sunlight, weather, or harsh chemicals.
Normal cement screed is also porous, i.e., not waterproof.
What’s the catch?
It’s very labor-intensive to apply. There are about 7-8 layers of various materials involved, from priming to layering to sealing. Careful mixing and application at each stage is crucial. It can take up to a week to finish a microcement project.
Of course, because of labor, the price is also higher than other forms of flooring, e.g. vinyl floors.
Note: some microcement installers use a shortcut method, applying only 2-3 layers. These all-in-one mixes may produce the same aesthetics, but are much less durable. We do not recommend these. Don’t be fooled.
